I need a bed!
I am in need of a new bed. For most of my life I have slept in a water bed. They say it's bad for the back but I have never had any major issues there, yes I do occasionally have a sore back but I can usually link that to having recently lifted something heavy or twisted it awkwardly. The thing is a bed can be pretty difficult to shop for. Comfy at the store may not be so comfy after a few weeks. Sure some places offer a fairly decent trial period, even up to 90 days but I am sure there is lots of fine print involved. The cost can also be quite high, sure if you consider how long it can last it's worth it but it's still allot of money up front. I do like the idea of the adjustable air mattress seems to me like a nice feature to be able to fine tune the firmness any time I want. I think I will head out this week end to see what's out there. I would appreciate any tips though.

As you may recall, this is what I had on FB back in June (sorry for the long post):
Yvonne Bosch OK, I'll bite...who has a Temper-Pedic Bed and what do you have to say about it???
Jacqlyn Bruce Hewell likes this.
Theresa Sadowski Moore T & I slept on one for one night. never again. but we have friends that swear by them.
Tami Campbell Robertson I'm curious too. Tried a sleep number in a hotel. Was really loud & like sleeping in a bouncy house.
Robert Adkins It's a very different experience.
You sink into the bed and it cushions your whole body. Over time (Almost 8 years for ours), the bed does take on your shape.
However, that could just be because the one we have has less memory foam and more "...regular" foam.
There's more, but... that's not safe for Facebook.
Debbie Morris We chose the sleep number bed instead... love it.... but never really tested the Temper-Pedic
Irina Bordyn I absolutely love mine!!!! We have one with an adjustable base... I was having back pain... omg... Every morning I woke up because of the pain... not any more :) Also, we keep our headpiece slightly elevated and Brett is hardly snoring any more AND THAT'S REALLY NICE!!!
Jason Gauthier I know a few people who loved them at first but after a few months were no as happy. I think a bed is one of the hardest things to buy. It's not about the first impression, you really do have to live with it before you really know if you li...ke it. My grandmothers house had a really soft comfy bed (i.e very worn out) that was fantastic to fall asleep in, a few hours later though my back was killing me.
Nicer hotels may have have them, you could always treat yourselves to a night out for a test sleep.
Bill Kole If you wait for your AARP membership to come through, you'll probably get a nice discount on it ;-)
Yvonne Bosch Thanks Bill :P
Cristian Teodoridis Just to make things even more confusing, you may want to look at the latex beds - we set out to compare the tempurpedic and the sleep number bed and ended up with a latex bed. but you really need to try them out. And most places allow you to take the bed back and exchange it for a different one.
Simone de Luyck We just bought a box-spring ! Fantastic !
Samantha Paducha Mike and I love our sleep number!
Yvonne Bosch well, I have back issues (since a sledding accident when I was 30) and Jason, you're right. We have a mattress (in the guest room) that is super soft and is nice at first, but then kills your back.
Terry, I think we tried out the same Tempu...rpedic that you did...Patrick and Laurens? And it was so nice, but I can't say that with only one night that my back was any better.
Jerome and I decided that we wouldn't get the sleep number because of too many parts that could fail.
Cristian, never heard of a latex bed, I'll look into it.See More
Cristian Teodoridis "Too many parts that could fail"? You better make sure you don't buy a car :)!
Yvonne Bosch being that Jerome and I both work in the auto industry, that's how we came up with that conclusion ;)
Samantha Paducha Too many parts that could fail? Its simple, and adjustable so you and jerome can sleep at your own comfort levels
Yvonne Bosch well, when we visit, we're using your room/bed :D
Denise Vasquez Reczkowski Bill and I did not like the Temper-Pedic. We ended up getting a Serta Verg Wang. OMG - thought we died and went to heaven. It's wonderful.
That may be why when I wrote this I kinda felt like I was repeating myself.
What did you end up with?
Nothing yet...we're waiting for Christmas. I still think it will be Tempur-pedic.
Jabbles, the saying you get what you pay for really applies when buying a matress. I suggest to buy a good matress that is thick and at least in the medium end of the matress spectrum. You should get something that is firm but comfortable. Your pillow is another item that may pose neck issues.
Take care and consider my thoughts.
God bless
Philippe
